We’ve bagged our plastic bags

National Pharmacies is happy to announce that as of December 1st 2021, we’re replacing our plastic customer bags with 100% recycled paper that will be fully recyclable.

National Pharmacies CEO, Vito Borrello stated that “we are one of the first retailers in Australia to transition to fully recycled paper bags manufactured here in Australia. It demonstrates our businesses’ commitment to not only caring for the wellness of the community, but also the planet we share.”

It makes sense that as a business with its’ origins in South Australia, we have been able to secure a local supplier for the bags that are made here in Adelaide. It means an even lower impact on the environment.”

The change is one of many implemented by the member-based organisation, which recently celebrated it’s 110th anniversary including the installation of LED lighting across all stores and support offices. Solar panels have also been support offices. Solar panels have also been installed at the Distribution Centre, Henley Beach and Victor Harbor Pharmacies.

Mr Borrello committed to ongoing improvements in the sustainability of the organisation’s operations, stating; “we are investigating other opportunities to ensure the health and wellness requirement of our community does not have a negative impact on the planet”.

We care for our customers, so it only makes sense to care for our environment too” he added.

The transition to 100% recycled paper bags has been well received by customers who appreciate the move as a positive one for the business.

The paper bags will retail at 20 cents or 16 cents for members for the large and 10 cents or 8 cents for members for the small.
