What is a B Corporation?
Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are businesses that meet the highest standards of public transparency, legal accountability, sustainability, and social and environmental performance. B Lab, founded in the USA in 2006, is a non-profit organisation that puts businesses to the test, assessing their overall impact and the benefit these companies have on the environment, the community, their employees and customers.
What are the certification requirements?
Businesses must undergo a rigorous certification process according to strict criteria, requiring a score of 80 points or above to achieve B Corp certification.
- The B Impact Assessment is a thorough and detailed survey of our social and environmental performance in the five areas of governance, workers, environment, community, and customers.
- Modifying its articles of incorporation and other legal governing documents to ensure that its board of directors balances its interests and objectives.
Jurlique’s journey to B Corp certification
While our B Corp certification has been three years in the making, our efforts to make a positive impact began over 40 years ago. Since then, we have achieved key milestones that have helped contribute to Jurlique’s B Corp certification.
ENVIRONMENT
Born from the unspoiled Adelaide Hills, our biodynamic* farm made us pioneers of conscious and holistic beauty. And today, we’re still leading the way with a unique approach to regenerative agriculture that replenishes and respects our land.
Nature is at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to giving back to the Earth more than what we take. We have planted 15,000 trees since 2009, reduced water consumption by 20% since 2015, built 100% solar-powered warehouse facilities, ensured that zero waste has been sent to landfill since 2016, and aligned with 1% for the Planet.
SUSTAINABILITY
At Jurlique, our dedication to sustainability is woven into every facet of our product creation, from formulation to packaging. In 2022, we elevated our efforts by creating a new formulation charter, going above and beyond industry norms. We adhere to stringent selection criteria for all materials we procure, including those bearing RSPO certification for palm derivatives. We also prioritise suppliers who share our ethos for locally made, low-impact production and continual improvement.
We’ve proudly stood as a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation for an extended period. Our approach to packaging is rigorous, employing Life Cycle Assessment to evaluate new packaging materials meticulously. Furthering our sustainable efforts, we partnered with TerraCycle to tackle the challenge of recycling traditionally hard-to-recycle items. This collaboration has successfully led to over 150,000 pieces of empty packaging being recycled since 2018.
COMMUNITY
The Jurlique Green Team has been at the forefront for over a decade, actively influencing both individuals and businesses through a series of environmental events and educational initiatives. By partnering with like-minded organisations, communities and charities, we work together to take collective climate action, rejuvenate areas devastated by bushfires and support local communities.
At Jurlique, we also strive to put our people first, consciously crafting a workplace culture where our employees can truly thrive by prioritising health and safety, female management, management training and creating a robust program dedicated to enhancing the overall well-being of our employees.

By becoming a Certified B Corp, we now hold ourselves, as an organisation, legally and transparently accountable to the highest standards of ethics, impact, and sustainability. But our almost three-year journey to B Corp certification is only the beginning. We’ll always strive to do what’s right, even if it’s not always easy.
